Where to Eat in Nisswa: Coffee, Pizza, Supper Clubs and Lakeside Patios

Where to Eat in Nisswa Coffee, Pizza, Supper Clubs and Lakeside Patios

For a town this size, Nisswa eats well. Here’s how we’d sequence a day of it.

Morning

Start with proper coffee. Nisswa has independent roasters and cafés along and just off Main Street, most of them opening early enough for anglers and trail riders. Grab a pastry, sit outside, watch the town wake up. If you’d rather not go out at all, nearly every room here has a kitchenette — bring beans and a bag of bagels and you’ve solved breakfast for the week.

Lunch

Casual is the rule. Pizza is a local institution in the Brainerd Lakes and there are several places doing it properly: thin crust, generous toppings, no ceremony. Delis and sandwich counters downtown will sort you out if you’re heading to the trail or the lake afterwards.

Late afternoon on the water

The lakeside patio is a Minnesota art form. Several bar-and-grills sit right on Gull Lake with dock space, so boats pull up and stay for hours. Order something fried, sit in the sun, don’t rush. These get busy on summer weekends — go early or go late.

Dinner

If you only do one meal properly, make it a supper club. It’s a regional tradition: relish trays, walleye, prime rib, an old-fashioned before dinner, warm wood-panelled rooms with a view of something. There are a few good ones within a short drive, and they take reservations for a reason.

A note on seasons

Some lakeside spots close or cut hours between roughly October and May. Always ring ahead in the shoulder months — a five-minute call saves a wasted drive.

Eat in instead

Not every night needs a table. Most of our rooms and suites include a kitchenette, and the Round Lake King Patio Suite has a full kitchen, which makes longer stays considerably cheaper and easier. If you’d like the meal without the cooking, our private chef service brings a chef to your suite — breakfast, a multi-course tasting menu, or a family-style dinner, prepared and cleared away for you.

The practical bit

We’re at 24186 Smiley Rd, minutes from downtown Nisswa and Gull Lake, with free parking outside your door. Late dinner, easy return, no front desk to catch — check-in is contactless.
